and death). 25. For he must reign, till he put all enemies under his feet. . · 26. Even death, the last enemy shall be destroyed. 27. For he hath subjected all things under his feet. But when it is said, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted who did put all things under him. 28. And when all things shall be subject to him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, (having delivered up his mediatorial commission, and kingdom, the end being accom. plished), that God may be all in all, (without fura ther need of a mediator). 29. Else what should they do who are baptized for the dead (Messiah, and in the place of those that died before they were baptized), if the dead are not raised? Why then are they baptized in the room of the dead? (in the faith and hope of enjoying the society of their friends at the resurrection). 30. And why are we every hour exposed to danger? (with. out any reward in this world.)

31. I protest by our rejoicings in Christ Jesus our Lord, I daily die (a living death, by sufferings). 32. If (to use a common proverb) according to the manner of men, (as savage as beasts of prey), I had a fight with (fierce human) beasts at Ephesus, what advantage have I thereby, if the dead rise not (to future glory;) let us (then as epicures) eat and drink (to-day), since we may die to.mor. row.

33. Be not deceived (by infidels); evil conversa. tions corrupt good manners, as Menander the Greek Poet says.) 34. Awake to truth and righ. teousness, and sin not, in opposing them;) for some have not the knowledge of God, (which even nature's light affords): I speak this to shame you.

with what kind of bodies do they come? 36. Thou inconsiderate man, that seed which thou sowest is not quickened except it die, (all but the bud, which is nourished by the corruption of the rest, John xii. 24.) 37. And as to what thou sowest, thou sowest not the body which shall be formed, but bare grain, perhaps of wheat, or any other grain: 38. But God gives it such a body as to him seems proper, and to every seed its own body, 39. Al flesh is not of the same kind; but the flesh of men, and of cattle, of fishes, and of fowls, are all different from each other (in quality.) 40. There are also heavenly and earthly bodies; but their glory is different. 41. The, sun, the moon, and the stars, differ in glory, and one star also differs from another.

42. So also shall be the resurrection of the dead; it is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption: 43. It is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory, (Matth. xvii, 2. xiij. 43.) it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44. It is sown an animal body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45. So also it is written, The first man Adam was made a living person; Christ, the last Adam, is a lifegiving Spirit, (to spiritualize the body). 46. However what is spiritual was not first, but what is natural; and afterward what is spiritual. 47. The first man was from the ground, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48. As was the earthly, such are they also that are earthly: and as is the heavenly, such will they be also that are heavenly. 49. And as we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50. But this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit tlic kingdom of God; nor doth a corruptible inherit incorruption.

51. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall

not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52. Ia a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, (for it shall sound;) and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we that are alive shall be changed. 53. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

..54. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be fulfilled what is written, Death is swallowed up in victory, 55. O death! where is thy sting? O grave! where is thy victory? 56. The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law. 57. But thanks be to God who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, uomoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord; knowing your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

CHAP. XVI.

EXHORTATIONS TO CHARITY.

Now, concerning the collection for the poor saints, as I gave order to the.churches of Galatia, so also do ye. 2. On the first day of the week (when ye assemble for public worship) let each of you lay something by, in proportion to the degree that God hath prospered him (in his atiairs), treasuring it up (in a common stock,) so that there be no (need of) collections when I come. 3. And, when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve, them will I send with letters, to bring your liberality to Jerusalem. 4. And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.

5. However, I will come to you, when I pass through Macedonia; which I am about to do: 6. And perhaps I will stay a while, or even winter

with you, that ye may conduct me wherever I go. 7. For I will not see you now in my way; but I hope to remain a while with you, if the Lord permit. 8. But I will remain at Ephesus until Pentecost. 9. For a great and effectual door is opened to me, and there are many opposers..

10. Now, if Timothy come, let him be with you without fear (of ill usage by you); for he works the Lord's work, as I also do. 11. Let no man, therefore, despise him; but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come to me, for I expect him with the brethren.

12. And concerning our brother Apollos, I greatly entreated him to come to you with the brethren: but he would not at all come now, but he will come when he has a convenient time. • 13. Be watchful, stand fast in the faith, acquit yourselves like men, be strong in the faith. 14. Let all your affairs be done with mutual love. 15. Now, I beseech you, brethren, who know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have set themselves to minister to the saints, 16. That ye submit yourselves to such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. · 17. Moreover, I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Acbaicus; for they have supplied your defect. 18. They refreshed my spi. rit and yours; therefore acknowledge such.

19. The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you affectionately in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. 20. All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy salutation. 21. The salution of me Paul with mine own hand.

22. If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, he will be Anathema Maran-atha, (accursed, our Lord cometh.)

23. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. 24. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.

ST. PAUL'S SECOND EPISTLE TO THE CORINTHIANS.

CHAP. I.

THE CHURCH COMFORTED. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints in all Achaia: 2. Grace and peace be to you, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all consolation, 4. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. . 5. For as the sufferings (for the cause) of Christ abound in us, so our consolation by Christ also abounds. 6. For whether we be afflicted, it is in subservience to your consolation and salvation, which is effectually wrought out by the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also endure; or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and sal. vation.

7. And, our hope concerning you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye partake of the sufferings, so ye do also of the consolation.
