Pursuant to adjournment Monday, January 30, 1933, the committee met in room 335, Senate Office Building, at 10.05 a. m. John McDuffie, chairman, Representative from Alabama, presided. The CHAIRMAN. Mr. Herman W. Brams was supposed to appear this morning at 10 o'clock for the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. Mr. Brams evidently comes from Jersey City-that is his address. He does not seem to be here. Mr. Basil H. Pollitt, of Newark, N. J., of the public relations committee of the Veterans' Alliance, Essex County, N. J., is not here. He is supposed to be here at 10.30. Mr. Brams was a substitute for Mr. Hyman Hordes, of Jersey City. A letter from the secretary to the adjutant general of the Jewish War Veterans advises that Mr. Hordes is out of town on a trip and Mr. Brams will substitute for him at 10 o'clock this morning. Mr. CHIPERFIELD. I wonder if Mr. Wholean is here? If he is we might put him further up on the program. The CHAIRMAN. Mr. Wholean, of Hartford, Conn., representative of the Disabled Provisional Officers of the World War. [No response.] It seems we have no one to hear this morning. Here are requests from individuals asking to be heard. If we have to hear individuals, of course, we would never close the hearings. We have to have a week or two to work on our report. I think we will not have time to hear individuals. Mr. CHIPERFIELD. I think we have covered the ground pretty thoroughly as far as organizations are concerned. (Messrs.
