O King of mercy! grant us power In thy destroying angel's hour, 1 O God! my inmost soul convert, And deeply, on my thoughtful heart, Eternal things impress; Give me to feel their solemn weight, And tremble on the brink of fate, And wake to righteousness. Before me place, in dread array, Be this my one great business here, Then, Father, then my soul receive, Transported from this vale, to live And reign with thee above; Where faith is sweetly lost in sight, And hope in full, supreme delight, And everlasting love. XIX. HE, that getteth wisdom, loveth his own soul: He, that keepeth understanding, shall find good. The fear of the Lord tendeth to life; and he, that hath it, shall abide satisfied: he shall not be visited with evil. The sluggard will not plough, by reason of cold; therefore, he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing. The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness. Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. Teacher. Give ear to my prayer, O God: Pupils. And hide not thyself from my supplication. T. Attend unto me and hear me : P. Be merciful unto me, for my soul trusteth in thee. T. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee : P. My soul thirsteth for thee, to see thy power and thy glory. T. Because thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee: P. Thus will I bless thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in thy name. T. My soul shall be satisfied, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: P. When I remember thee on my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. T. Because thou hast been my help: P. Therefore, in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. T. My soul followeth hard after thee: P. Thy right hand upholdeth me. T. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: P. I will sing and give praise. T. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people : T. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens : T. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: P. For his mercy endureth for ever. 1 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in How readest thou? the law? And he, answering, said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind, and thy neighbor as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right This do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor ? And Jesus, answering, said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And, by chance, there came down a certain priest that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side: And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came near where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. out And on the morrow, when he departed, he took two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now, of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor to him, that fell among the thieves? And he said, He, that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go, and do thou likewise. ། OUR FATHER, which art in heaven, &c. |
