(b) Channel improvements, inspections, and miscellaneous maintenance.-The budget estimate of $128,000 provides for the essential annual and periodic maintenance requirements of three flood control protection projects and inspection of completed works within the division during the budget year.

3. Multiple-purpose projects including power

The budget estimate of $8,326,000 for the operation and maintenance of 10 multiple-purpose projects provides the amount for operational requirements. Annual requirements are for operation and ordinary maintenance of project facilities; labor, supplies, materials, and parts required for the day-by-day functioning of the projects; and periodic maintenance, repairs, and replacements.

4. Protection of navigation

The budget estimate of $159,000 provides for accomplishing the work essential to the administration and enforcement of specific laws enacted for the protection of navigation, and project condition surveys on some projects for which maintenance is not scheduled for the budget year.

(a) Navigation studies.-The amount of $195,000 is requested for continuation of four studies during fiscal year 1965. Tentative allocations by studies follow:

Consideration of the feasibility of extending a 10-foot deep navigation channel upstream from the city of Sacramento to Red Bluff on the Sacramento River, to Marysville on the Feather River, and to the State fair site on the American River. San Diego Harbor, Sweetwater River..

Consideration of modifying the existing project to provide smallcraft harbors, additional deep-draft facilities and a second entrance into San Diego Bay development of a plan for flood control in the entire Sweetwater River Basin, including improvements to enhance the tidelands near the mouth.

Consideration of providing additional storage capacity in the Kern River Basin for flood control, conservation, recreation, and other purposes.

Consideration of providing flood control by additional reservoirs, and levees and channel improvements for several localities and the Castle Air Force Base. Poso-Deer-White streams..

Consideration, in cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation, of providing flood protection to agricul tural areas by reservoirs, levees, and/ or channel improvements. Richardson Bay streams.

Consideration of levees, channel improvements and upstream reservoirs for flood control, water supply, recreation, and allied purposes. Russian River (Redwood Valley Reservoir).

This is a survey to consider construction of a multiple-purpose reservoir in Redwood Valley for flood control, water supply, recreation, and related purposes. Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Consideration of a plan for flood control and navigation in the delta area, consistent with the interbasin plans being developed by the State of California and Bureau of Reclamation, for transfer of water. Sacramento-San Joaquin region.

Consideration of measures to preserve and enhance recreation consistent with the primary flood control and navigational purposes of existing and proposed improvements.

Consideration of channel improvements and debris basins for Warm Creek and certain mountain tributaries for protection of a rapidly expanding urban area in the eastern portion of the city of San Bernardino.

Wildcat and San Pablo Creeks.

Consideration of a reservoir on Wildcat Creek and channel improvements and levees on both creeks.
