1 Area types are defined as follows: 5(a). Redevelopment areas designated under sec. 5(a) of the Area Redevelopment Act. These are urban industrial areas with substantial and persistent unemployment.

5(b). Redevelopment areas designated under sec. 5(b) of the Area Redevelopment Act. These are rural areas and small urban communities with high percentages of low-income families and substantial and persistent unemployment. The Public Works Acceleration Act provides that not less than one-third shall be allocated to projects in these areas.

LS. Areas designated under sec. 3a(1) of the Public Works Acceleration Act as having been areas of substantial unemployment for at least 9 of the preceding 12 months. These are mainly metropolitan labor market areas, with more than 6 percent of the labor force unemployed.
